Rose City Comicon Precommissions open!

  • by

Hey Portland!

I’m really excited to be tabling at Rose City Comic Con on September 19-20. I’ll be there at Table W5 at the Oregon Convention Center, the flat building with the two shiny glass towers poking out of it close to the Moda Center.  I will have art prints, t-shirts, and magnets available to sell as well as commissions.

Speaking of which, I’m opening up pre-commission slots for Rose City Comic Con! Instead of signing up for a commission at the con and waiting to get it, you can order one right now and pick it up when you visit my table without waiting in line.  I will be offering the following single-character pre-commissions for RCCC:

  • OPTION 1 (available for pre-commission only, order by Tuesday, 9/15): 11×17 color giclee print on matte paper – starting at $80 USD, additional characters – starting at $20 USD each.
  • OPTION 2: 9×12 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $45 USD, additional characters – starting at $10 USD each.
  • OPTION 3: 5×7 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $30 CAD, additional characters – starting at $5 USD each.

Option 2 and 3 will be made available at RCCC. If you would like a commission done, please email me at “punchingpandasart” on Gmail, and provide the following information:

  • First and last name
  • Description of the commission. PLEASE refer to my guidelines for commissions. I need to approve of the commissions before I start them.
  • What day you plan on picking up the commission (Friday 9/19, Saturday 9/20).

Once I have the information, I will provide you with my Paypal info. I will only work on your commission once I receive payment through PayPal.

Here are a few samples of my digital commissions that I did for ECCC and Fan Expo Vancouver earlier in the year.[/vc_column_text]

And here are some samples of my ink commissioned works for Fan Expo Canada this last weekend.

I’m really excited to be at this con, and I might be bring something extra special for you Portland folks. Stay classy, I’ll see you soon!

Cheers,

Nolen

Fan Expo Canada Pre-Commission Slots are now OPEN!

  • by

Hey everyone! It’s time for pre-commissions! I’ll be attending Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, September 3-6. I haven’t received my table assignment yet, but check back to this post next week for an update.

You can sign up for pre-commissions by emailing me at “punchingpandasart” on Gmail. Please review my submission guidelines here, and make sure you follow the directions otherwise I will not accept them.

As a special promotion for Fan Expo, all prices for pre-commissions for Fan Expo Canada will be in CAD. This will only apply to pre-commissions that will be delivered at Fan Expo. Here’s a rundown of the prices:

  • OPTION 1: 11×17 color giclee print on matte paper – starting at $100 CAD, additional characters – starting at $30 CAD each.
  • OPTION 2: 9×12 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $50 CAD, additional characters – starting at $15 CAD each.
  • OPTION 3: 5×7 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $30 CAD, additional characters – starting at $10 CAD each.

Please contact me at “punchingpandasart” on Gmail. At this time, commissions for Fan Expo Canada will take priority over non-Fan Expo commissions. If you are interested in a commission but are not attending Fan Expo to pick it up, I will get to those as soon as I return to the States. I will also have a follow-up post for those of you attending Rose City Comic Con in Portland. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing all you Torontonians! It’s gonna be fun!

Cheers,

Nolen

New Punching Pandas site!

Hey everyone, it’s a brand new website! I had to shut down the site for the past couple of days to make the changes. Hopefully you’ll like the new look!

There’s a new portfolio section under the “Work” menu item which has samples of the latest and greatest. I also have a section specific to the Punching Pandas that better organizes all of my panda art to date.

I also made some changes to the shop. The last storefront I was using only limited me to 25 products. Now I’ll be able to offer as many products as I would like including original art and prints of existing art. If there’s a piece of art you’d like a print of, you can email me with your request.

There will be more updates to the site in the future, but for now I’m happy with the changes. Cheers!

Art in Cafe Cesura

  • by

Hey everybody! Just want to let you all know that I am displaying my art at Cafe Cesura for the month of June. Come swing by, grab a coffee, and enjoy (cough… cough… BUY) some art! Cheers!

Patreon Page is live!

  • by

Hey everyone, I’m pleased to announce that I have launched my Patreon page.  For those of you unfamiliar with Patreon, it’s similar to Kickstarter, but on a smaller scale. Instead of pledging a large amount to fund a large project, Patreon is more like a subscription service, allowing you the patron to pledge towards supporting the artist.

You can pledge as little as $1/mth to support me. All final pieces will be viewable to the public regardless of whether you pledge or not, but higher pledges will have access to the exclusive content. In exchange for their pledges, patrons will receive access to behind-the-scenes material for my art including WIP sketches, paintings, and even time-lapse videos of my digital paintings.

If you are wondering why the rewards are not immediately available for download, it’s to insure that the rewards will go towards those who are true supporters. At the end of each month after the pledges clear, I will post a link that will be available to patrons to download the rewards for one week.

For those of you wondering, I will still post time-lapse videos on my YouTube channel for free, but I will not be posting all of my videos. In order to view all of my videos, you can make a pledge on my Patreon page.

I’m excited about trying out this platform and look forward to sharing my work with you all. Have a great rest of the week!

Cheers!

ECCC Location

Hey everyone, I still have room for preorder commissions for Emerald City Comicon and Fan Expo Vancouver.  I probably won’t be able to finish that many by ECCC, but you can still sign up anyways since I’ll be doing commissions at the con.  If you’re visiting ECCC this weekend, please check me out at Table JJ-03 on the 6th floor.  Check the map above for my table position.

Fan Expo is almost a week away for all you Canadiens!  I just received my table placement.  I will be at Table A35, check below for the map.  come by and say hi!

Fan Expo Vancouver Location

In the meantime, here are a few preorder commissions I got to complete for ECCC.  Can’t believe the weekend is almost here!

ECCC + VanFanExpo! 2015 Pre-order commissions slots open!

  • by

[UPDATE: Digital preorders are no longer open for ECCC and Fan Expo Vancouver.  I do accept digital commissions, but those will be completed and shipped after Easter weekend (4/3-4/5).]

Howdy! I have a big announcement to make! I will have a table in the artist’s alley at Emerald City Comicon this year!  My table will be JJ-03 on the 6th floor under “Punching Pandas.” It was a last minute addition that I wasn’t expecting to open up, but now that I’m on the list it’s time to get bizzay! I will also be featuring at the FanExpo Vancouver [UPDATE: at table A35] the following weekend April 3-5.  I’m busy trying to get things together and am really excited to show my work in these cons.

I will be opening up pre-order commission slots for digital prints and BW ink originals to pick up at both conventions. I will be doing commissions at the conventions, but these pre-orders will allow me to spend a little more time on your piece without being interrupted with the needs of the booth as well as relieve you from having to stand in another line. Slots are limited for now, but if I feel like I have the bandwidth to do more, I’ll take on more commissions. I’m open to doing commissions outside of the conventions, but pre-orders for the conventions will have first priority.

Commission Guidelines

Commissions will be single full-body characters with a minimal background depending on the commission.  I might make an exception if I feel like the additional characters are simple enough to add in (e.g. a parrot on a pirate’s shoulder).  Some general guidelines for the subjects:

What I won’t draw:

  • Sexual activity or lewd content. There’s kids who look at my stuff, man!
  • Explicit nudity and gore. I’m not averse to either, but only if it’s done in a tasteful and humorous way.
  • Crazy complex designs or compositions like a pile of nails or intricate mech designs. If you want a picture of a pile of nails, take a photo.
  • Caricatures, realistic likenesses, or hyper-realism.
  • The price of the commissions are subject to change depending on the complexity of the character.
  • Commission requests will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • I reserve the right to refuse a commission if I am not comfortable with the subject or if I find it too complicated.

What I will draw:

  • Animals, people, some celebrities
  • Fan art, original art, video game art, all kinds of art! :D
  • Overall, I want to have a good time drawing something so that you will enjoy seeing on your wall. I’m just here to have a good time and try my best!

Submission Guidelines

To add your name to the list, please email me at nolen.lee [AAATTT] gmail duh-duh-dot com. Please include:

  • ECCC Commission” or “VanFanExpo Commission” in your subject header so I know which convention I need to bring the pieces to.
  • Indicate which days you plan on attending each convention so I know when to have them ready and when to bring them.
  • Clear reference photos of the character (send pictures, not links). I see you spammers… -_-
  • Specific notes for the piece including the personality, attitude, and anything you might find relevant to the character. The better you can explain your concept, the easier and quicker I can get the piece completed.
  • Indicate if you would like to have a digital print (see below for deadline), BW painting, or pencil sketch. [UPDATE: Digital preorder commission slots no longer offered for either comicon, but I do receive commissions outside of the comicons. Please email me at the address above if you are interested in a commission.]

Once I receive your email, I will confirm within 24 hours with your position on the list.  If I accept your commission request, I’ll send you my PayPal information; I’ll begin work once I’ve received payment.

Prices

  • [UPDATE: Digital print commission slots no longer offered for Emerald City.  Fan Expo requests are still open] 11×17 Digital color print – starting at $80 USD, additional characters – starting at $20 USD

Deadlines

Due to my limited time leading up to both shows, I will stop receiving pre-order requests for digital prints to give myself ample time to complete the artwork and send them to the printer.  For ECCC, please submit your commission request no later than March 9, 2015.  For Fan Expo Vancouver, please submit your commission request no later than March 16, 2015. I will try to get to as many of these commissions as I possibly can, if I’m unable to complete your commission in time, I will ship the image to your location.

[UPDATE: I won’t be receiving anymore digital preorder commissions for VanExpo but I will be doing ink drawing commissions leading up to Fan Expo as well as commissions during the cons. If you’re interested in commissions outside of the cons, please contact me at the email address listed above.]

Looking forward to seeing you all at these year’s cons! It’s gonna be a blast!

Cheers,

Nolen

Back in the saddle again

  • by

After a 2-year hiatus, Punching Pandas is back online! Sorry for the long wait everyone, I wanted to do a complete revamp of the whole site theme; but once I took the site down, I ended up getting distracted, being lazy, being super busy, there’s a lot to share in the weeks ahead. It’s my big 3-0 birthday today (technically yesterday), and what better time to kick off a new phase in life by dusting off ye ole’ website? Actually, what I have up right now is just a placeholder. I’m working on the art for the official redesign to be coming soon. In the meantime, I’ll be sharing what has gone down in the last two years. Anyways, it’s good to be back!
